From the Earth, a Home. From the Past, a Future. Ohkay Owingeh

HISTORY & TRADITION – For more than 700 years, Ohkay Owingeh has drawn from the strength of our tribal people to preserve our culture, language and traditions in Northern New Mexico. The sacred center of our community, our plaza – Owe’neh Bupingeh, is a nationally recognized, award-winning restoration effort that successfully combines modern living with historical craftsmanship and unique construction.

RESTORATION – The goal of this preservation project is the restoration of the ancestral adobe homes in the Pueblo’s plaza — a timeless meeting place where children play, dances are held, and traditions are honored. Thirty-four homes have been restored to date, making it possible for a total of 42 families to live in the plazas. The rebirth of Ohkay Owingeh’s core benefits all tribal members and is a model for Pueblos across New Mexico.

$4 million is needed to restore the final 25 homes. With your help, Ohkay Owingeh tribal members can connect the past to the present, cultivating traditional values and cultural identity while ensuring a path for future generations. This is the way we honor our history.
